Hellgate: London currency - Palladium

The currency of Hellgate: London is called Palladium. User-coined nicknames include Pd.
Anyone that has played Diablo/2/LoD will know, beyond gambling, pots/scrolls, and repairs, gold had no value in that game. Guild Wars and WoW have managed to keep currency relevant, This always bothered me.. My question is (and not that I expect anyone to know, even so close to release it seems there is amazingly little information on this game) what will gold (palladinium or whatever) be used for in this game to actually make it worth getting.
Thing is, D2 didn't have auction houses, and players found it easy enough to barter.
When you have an AH system, duping or not, it's really up to how hard gold is obtained to determine prices. Would be really annoying seeing stuff on the AH listed at Millions, just because gold is so abundant... Hopefully as you said, it is an issue enough players raise in Beta if it is like that. Let's hope beta allows FSS to balance the currency properly, then. I really don't want to see another D2 economy. Then again, it wasn't the balance that ruined the D2 economy so much as the duping. And presumably Hellgate:
It would be interesting if the AH didnt use a currency, but used a barter system. For example, not an auction per se, using D2 items. I think item trading is a cool part of these games.. HOWEVER, having a certain item BECOME currency (like SOJ's in diablo2) is rediculous and shouldn't happen. I don't wanna see "Selling X Item of Uber for 5 Y Rings of Uber!" again.
I've heard of an auction house feature, and I'll assume money will be used for items there. Hellgate:
